Tips
Establish a specific recycling area in your home and place of work. Three separate containers are ideal. One for mixed paper and cardboard, one for beverage cartons, bottles, cans, metal and foil; the third is for everything else. Clearly marking the containers will help every one learn to recycle.
Always check the bottom of plastic containers before purchasing, only two types are recyclable.
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
Soft drink and water bottles, salad domes, biscuit trays, salad dressing and peanut butter containers Pillow and sleeping bag filling, clothing, soft drink bottles, carpet.
PE-HD (High Density Polyethylene)
Crinkly shopping bags, freezer bags, milk bottles, ice cream containers, juice bottles, shampoo, chemical and detergent bottles, buckets, rigid detergent bottles, rigid agricultural pipe, milk crates, Recycling bins, compost bins, buckets, detergent containers, posts, fencing, pipe.
Take cloth bags when you shop, and if you forget, put your purchases in as few bags as possible. It takes one 15- to 20-year-old tree to make enough paper for only 700 grocery bags.
